Site Name: Shipton-under-Wychwood

Site Location: North-West Oxfordshire
Related Achive: Manning

The records of Percy Manning mention the Shipton-under-Wychwood Barrow. This site is also known as Kenner's Barrow.

The mound, now in quite bad condition, sits on top of a hill by the road to Burford. Approximately 9 feet high and 90 feet in diameter. The date of the barrow is uncertain, but secondary burials were excavated in 1976 and an iron buckle found suggest a late Anglo-Saxon date for these. Today the barrow is scruffy and covered in brambles and badger holes. But the question remains of who was Kenner?
