Martyn Jope Archaeological Archive

Martyn Jope's archaeological papers were donated to the Ashmolean by his widow and literary executor. Further documents have recently been discovered by his executor and were deposited at the Ashmolean in October 2003. These have not been included in this project.

The Jope archive totals 907 items of various types. It has been divided into 9 different files, each representing a different archaeological site excavated by Professor Jope in Oxfordshire.

Oxford, Nuffield College
Cassington, Purwell Farm
Oxford Area, General
Oxford Castle
Oxford, Clarendon Hotel
Unlabelled (probably Oxford)
Oxford, New College (City Defences)

The material has been repackaged and stored in archival envelopes, boxes and folders. A paper conservator has treated the most vulnerable items.
